Christen Conrad, The Story Book Writer, and more

Welcome to Christen’s Corner.  A place where poetry, short stories, children’s stories, and book reviews come alive!

I love putting words together.  Words paint a vision, inspire, give you knowledge, make you laugh, cry, scream, feel good inside, and thrills you to the bones.  They are powerful.  For me, writing down words to paint those pictures mesmerizes me.  I am not an expert, nor did I study English in College.  I’m just another human being who happened to pickup writing poetry when I was in Junior High, and went on to write short stories for fun.
Writing soothes my soul.  I just love it.  I am actually very shy verbally.  Writing is my gateway for communication.  It’s my way of contributing, but in a behind the scenes sort of way. In 2020, I self-published my first children’s book.  I love writing children’s stories because I want to inspire kids to learn to read and love to read.  I want to teach kids to learn to be kind to one another, believe in themselves that anything is possible, and admire themselves through their uniqueness and individuality.  I also aim to help kids learn to treat differences in others with compassion, empathy, and equality as they mature into young adults.  Basically, I love to see children happy and smiling.  In my poetry I mostly try to bring forth a positive outlook.  My goal is to inspire happiness, acceptance, and not giving up.  These are important life attributes to me that I want to share with everyone who is interested.
In addition to reading and writing, I am 110% dedicated to helping animals.  In my day job, I work in Veterinary Medicine.  I have been in this field for over 10 years.  It is also my passion.  I created this website to promote my books and poetry, and, I have another website dedicated to cats and dogs.  Everything cats and dogs, literally…
everythingcatsanddogs.com
You can access my pets website from thestorybookwriter.com website.  I am no expert, but I do like to educate the public on health and behavior of our beloved pets.  Routine health and preventative maintenance can go a long way in making your fur kids happy and healthy, and keeping your wallet stuffed.
My goal is to become affiliated with several pet companies and promote products and services I have tried out with informed reviews to share.  However, I also want a to use my love of writing to help save homeless pets.  This has always been a dream of mine.
I hope you find both my websites and facebook page enjoyable and informational.  I would love it if you sent me a message.  I am in the process of setting up an email address.  I would also love it if you would share my websites and facebook-Christen’s Corner with others you know who may be interested.  You may purchase my books from Ingramspark from my website!😊

About me and my books…

I’m Christen Conrad, a new author and self-publisher in Kansas City, Missouri.  Even though I’ve been writing poems, and short stories since I was in Junior High, I didn’t publish my first book until 2020.  My first book is called Zester the Zebra and his Missing Stripes.  It’s clever, charming, and fun to read.  This story concludes book one from my Forever Zoo Friends Series.  My second story, The Lion and the Cricket Play Hide and Seek, was just recently published.  Both reading and writing gives me peace and joy, especially when I can utilize my creative juices to help educate children, and create stories that teach them to admire themselves through their uniqueness and individualities.  Check out my books, your kids will love them!

CHILDREN’S BOOK REVIEW

The Sisters Z

By Kerry Marc Olitzky, Deborah Bodin Cohen, and Lena Tohoff

This is a short, captivating story during biblical times that depicts a sisterhood who unite together and utilize their feminine strength & power to show they deserve to be treated fair and not judged by their gender.  I like how it is such an easy read with such a powerful message.  I recommend this to young kids, both boys and girls, as it teaches each of us how to treat others with equality.  As I read it, the colors of the illustrations of the sisters in the desert brought a warmth to my heart.  The illustrations were sensible and filled the pages, colorfully detailing this cute and educational story.  I’ve added the links below to buy this book or check out the authors library and studio, and Etsy Shop!

Life is Good

My neighborhood may be considered substandard but my immediate neighbors are more than helpful

My house may be small and not brand newbut that just means i have less to cleaning to do
My home is not a big and fancy homebut it’s our little dwelling and humble abode
The old stuff in my house may break more frequent but it just teaches me to be more self-sufficient
My furniture may not match in any way but its cozy and makes me feel comfortably safe
My kitchen may have dark yellow walls but it is my kitchen and it’s open to all
There might be too many pets running around but they are my children and my home they found
The clothes on my back may be simple and old but they keep me from being naked and cold

My body may be enormously out of shape but it’s my body that belongs to the mind I create
I may not have 100 plus friends but the few I have are with me to the end

My husband may suffer from that damn epilepsy if you lived in his shoes you would know his strength
I may not be all that brainy and smart but I feel what counts is what comes from your heart

I may feel down and always depressed but what doesn’t kill me makes me the strongest
I may like to talk, I may talk too much but my talk is about those I admire a bunch
Sometimes i have literally nothing to say but my ears do nothing but listen away
Life Isn’t always initially what you want but you realize what you have can be more than enough
